Alex Story has
explored many forms of the visual arts from ceramics to enamel
and oil paints. In London and Paris she focused her studies
on sculpture, metal smithing and welding. Her work was large,
bold, organic and difficult to transport.
Returning to New York, she refocused
her eye onto the smaller scale of jewelry and found satisfaction
in making art that people can wear.
She discovered a small workshop
in Soho where she has refined her style using the lost wax
process. Each piece is hand carved from wax and then cast
in silver, gold or platinum. Each piece is hand-finished,
some accentuated with precious and semi-precious stones.
Alex's style remains heavily
influenced by her sculptural background; her pieces mimic
sculptures' bold, organic shapes and textures in a way that
manages to be both graceful and playful.
A fourth generation native New
Yorker, she currently lives and works in the East Village.
Her jewelry can be found in boutiques in Nolita and the East
Village and has recently been featured in Lucky magazine. |
